A CAFÉ WITH PRETENSIONS

A CAFÉ WITH PRETENSIONS
SOFIA - Bulgarian Army Theater, 98 Rakovski Street
The comic plot of “A Pretentious Café” takes us to Sofia in 1966, in the apartment of Milcho—a 43-year-old head of an advertising office. We find him there together with his “buddy,” the equally 43-year-old Milko. A frantic preparation is underway as they await two ladies they happened to meet earlier that day over coffee on Rakovska Street…

The guidance of the far more experienced womanizer Milcho almost manages to give courage to Milko, who—although an architect—has brought his career to the modest position of “head of the technical documentation department,” and is extremely inexperienced when it comes to women.

At the height of the preparations, their third friend arrives uninvited—43-year-old Minko, a research associate in Old Bulgarian studies. His secret wish is to escape the “comforts of family life,” in whose constraints he has recently found himself, and to have a drink with his friends.

This evening, and its unexpected outcome, give rise to a series of absurd and hilarious situations.
